The Role of Allied Health Professionals

Many school teams include allied health professionals, such as school psychologists, guidance counsellors, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists. Accessing and understanding the assistance provided by these professionals requires communication between them, teachers, and the student(s). But how exactly do allied health professionals help, and what can be done by teachers to maximise the support provided?

Featured resource: Making Inclusion Happen podcast

Looking for a new podcast listen? Check out the Making Inclusion Happen podcast, produced by QUT’s Centre for Inclusive Education! With three seasons available, you can listen to conversations with C4IE researchers, C4IE partners, and C4IE research students about inclusive education topics and research being conducted in the centre.

Access the podcast series via the Additional Resources page of the Inclusive Education and Allied Health website (scroll to the bottom). From there, you will find links to access the podcast via Google Podcasts or Spotify.
  • Season 1 features conversations with authors from the best-selling book Inclusive Education for the 21st Century: Theory, Policy and Practice about what genuine inclusive education is (and is not).
  • Season 2 focuses on the research conducted by Higher Degree Research (HDR) students who are undertaking, or have completed, research projects supervised by C4IE academics.
  • Season 3 showcases the work of middle leaders who have played key roles in leading inclusive education reform in their schools.

Don't forget!

The countdown is now on with less than a month until Dr Haley Tancredi and Professor Linda Graham return to Central Region to visit schools and facilitate the Part 2 Workshops in Alice Springs!

Remember: If you attended the Friday Part 1 Workshop, you are invited to join us again on Friday 23 May for Part 2 (access the flyer).

Why not keep the conversation going with your school team by sharing the printable handouts ahead of a staff meeting, where you can have a 15-minute focused discussion on what you have read and reflected on.
